EXHIBITION: Skirting Convention: Illinois Women Artists, 1840 to 1940 at Lakeview Museum in Peoria, Illinois October 1, 2011 – to January 15, 2012.The exhibit is a unique and distinctive collection of seventy paintings, prints, drawings, and sculpture by sixty-three Illinois women artists who worked in the state in different decades, under various conditions, using a variety of styles and subjects. These outstanding women achieved success during their lifetimes yet, little is known about them today. Learn their stories, see their artwork and consider the roles these women played in American history during your visit to Lakeview Museum.

SYMPOSIUM: Uncovering the Stories of Midwestern Women Artists, 1840 to 1940: an interdisciplinary conference to explore the art and experiences of early Midwestern women artists. October 20-21, 2011 at Bradley University.
